Picturesque & Historic Wonders of Zhejiang Province

Standard DreamTrip
See highlights of Shaoxing — including an ancient street, a poet's childhood home & a tranquil lake — enjoy fishing in the Zhoushan archipelago, take in the sights at scenic Mt. Putuo Island & much more during this 6-day discovery tour of Zhejiang province. Book by January 20.

About Your Trip

Traverse Zhejiang province from Shaoxing to Zhoushan to Hangzhou — and points in between! — on an all-encompassing DreamTrip that blends sightseeing with culture experiences. Adventure and fun await!

Starting in Shaoxing, you’ll visit Lanting, site of the beautiful, ancient Orchid Pavilion, a notable gathering place for calligrapher and poet Wang Xizhi and other artists. Continue to East Lake, where you’ll find yourself surrounded by gardens, cliffs and caves. From there, head to the former residence of Lu Xun, an acclaimed and progressive writer born in the late 19th century. Older still is Cangqiao Zhijie — with its charming shops, restaurants, ancient architecture and tourist sites, it’s the perfect place to stroll around and explore before dinner and your return to your hotel.

The following day, you’re off to Zhoushan, a city and group of islands set in Hangzhou Bay. Once you’re there, you’ll board a boat for a fishing tour in waters that make up one of China’s most significant fishing grounds. Your next tour takes you to Mt. Putuo Island, also in the Zhoushan archipelago. There, you’ll visit Zizhu forest and see the golden Nanhai Guanyin statue overlooking the sea before settling in for your group lunch. Continue to Puji Temple — the largest and oldest Buddhist temple on the island — followed by a stop at Xitian Scenic Spot, where you can marvel at the impressive seaside rock formations.

You’ll end your journey in Hangzhou with enough free time to check out the sites on your own. Popular activities in and around the city include sightseeing, cultural tours, lake cruises and visits to nearby tea plantations.

What we love:
• Mt. Putuo is 1 of 4 sacred mountains in Chinese Buddhism, and devotees have been visiting the many temples, pagodas and monasteries on the island for more than 1,000 years.
• Your Hangzhou hotel is a very short drive from must-see West Lake, a cherished natural landmark and UNESCO World Heritage site that’s well worth a visit.
• To maximize your enjoyment, download the DreamTrips™ app to access DreamTrips Local — then earn points on dining, entertainment, spa experiences & more at select spots recommended by DreamTrippers just like you!

Destination

Shaoxing is an ancient water town in the eastern Chinese province of Zhejiang. Here, you’ll find an abundance of rivers and more than 4,000 bridges — it’s why many refer to the city as the “Venice of China.” Attractions on land include Longhua Temple, the tomb of Yu the Great, Shen Yuan (Shen Garden) and the former residence of writer and philosopher Lu Xun (the pen name of Zhou Shuren). Be sure to try Shaoxing wine, a specialty rice wine known the world over.

Located within Hangzhou Bay, Zhoushan is a prefecture-level city comprised of a group of islands known as the Zhoushan archipelago.
Mt. Putuo Island is perhaps the most well-known of the islands, a longtime Buddhist pilgrimage site and beloved scenic area. As a port city, Zhoushan itself is one of China’s top processors and sellers of seafood.

Few places in China offer such legendary attractions as Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang province. Ancient temples, striking cityscapes and scenic mountain vistas make this region one of the most beautiful travel destinations in the country. World-famous attractions include Baochu Pagoda, Lingyin Temple, Yue Fei Temple and the bronze, octagonal Leifeng Pagoda. Hangzhou’s awe-inspiring West Lake is surrounded by temple gardens, pagodas and lush woodlands. This cherished natural landmark has been immortalized in art, literature and poetry since the 9th century.
